Steam is the world’s largest digital game distribution platform, yet despite its scale and continued evolution, its interface remains fractured. While Valve did introduce a major desktop client redesign in 2023, many of the core pages still lack a unified visual language, resulting in an experience that feels fragmented.

As a long-time Steam user, I set out to design a comprehensive UI system that modernizes the client while preserving the familiarity that millions of users rely on. The objective wasn’t to reinvent Steam’s identity.

The impact is significant. Steam’s current interface contains over 44 button styles, 11 scrollbar variations, 19 dropdown menu designs, and 10 unique tab styles. My proposed UI kit creates a cleaner, more maintainable, and much more consistent user experience.

The result is a unified design system built around a distinct color palette and a carefully defined library of reusable components. Buttons, form fields, dropdowns, tabs, scrollbars, progress indicators, and other core interface elements have been standardized into a cohesive system that can scale across every page of the client.
